It’s almost time to don those pink ribbons again to help raise awareness to one of the most devastating diseases to inflict women and even a few men.
The month of October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and you’ll no doubt see those who are out helping to raise awareness at various public events, attractions and high public traffic areas throughout towns and cities across the country. Many of the people working these awareness booths are Breast Cancer Survivors themselves and are a living testament to the achievements made in breast cancer prevention and early detection due to increased awareness. Through National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, millions of people will be showing their support by wearing pink ribbons, shirts, shoe laces and evenpink ribbon nipple pasties.
During the month of October there will also be thousands of money raising events, in support of breast cancer breast cancer research as well as to help promote awareness. If at all possible, try and attend at least one of these events even if you stay just long enough to pay registration to show your support. You can also donate on-line to the fight against cancer by going to the American Cancer Society website and clicking on the “Donate” link.
The American Cancer Society reports that the chance of a woman having invasive breast cancer in their lifetime is about 1 in 8 and while the mortality rate amongst women who are inflicted with this horrible disease is improving breast cancer still takes 1 in 36 of those inflicted. These numbers a huge and the reason why there is such a need to raise awareness of Breast Cancer.
Take advantage of all the information that will be shared during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month as the life you may affect or even save could be a friend’s, loved one’s or even your own.
