New "Noise Snare" Targets Loud Bikes & Hot Rods

  • Hey Canada!  Feel free to continue sending Molson Beer and Seagrams products... but you can keep this one to yourselves!

According  to a report in the Calgary Herald the Calgary Police are testing a new sound activated traffic camera that can photograph and ticket loud vehicles automatically.  The device is called "Noise Snare" and sells for just over $100,000... The Calgary Police Dept received theirs at no charge to perform initial real-world test for the company.

After months of real world testing along with test performed by a reputable local acoustic engineer, the results will now go to committee for review on and will have to be approved by council.  If approved the city will most likely enforce a $200 fine for vehicles sited by the instrument.  The city does plan to offer free testing for vehicle owners who may be concerned that their vehicles are too loud.

The company who manufactures the "Noise Snare" (Street Noise Reduction Systems Ltd. of Edmonton, AB, Canada) hopes to widely sell this device across North America.

  • Lucky They really need one of these to target the damn stereos with the bass systems that rattle my windows from two blocks away!
  • Seakers Yep I was thinking the same thing Lucky. But you know they will target "bikers" on this and leave the bass alone.
