Captain America Bike from the movie Easy Rider could bring $1,000,000 +
When you think of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, the 1969 movie classic "Easy Rider" often comes to mind and Peter Fonda’s "Captain America” motorcycle used during the filming of the movie, which will soon be auctioned off.
The motorcycle, which had been housed in the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa, is expected to bring $1 million to $1.2 million.
Profiles in History, an entertainment auction house, will auction off the motorcycle during its Hollywood Auction from Oct. 17-20, according to a press release.
“Captain America’s stretched-out American-flag-adorned panhead chopper is one of the most iconic images in American film,” said Joseph Maddalena, president and chief operating officer of Profiles in History. “The bike evokes powerful emotions even in non-bikers. It personifies the '60s, all of the good and the bad that decade brought. This is an opportunity for someone to own a pure piece of nostalgic entertainment history.”
Designed by Cliff Vaughs and Ben Hardy with the help of Peter Fonda, the motorcycle features red, white and blue stars and stripes. Two bikes were built for the movie, but this one was used during the crash scene at the end of the film. After the movie finished production, Fonda offered up the motorcycle to "Grizzly Adams" actor Dan Haggerty.
Haggerty had the motorcycle for 12 years at the National Motorcycle Museum.
John Parham, president of the National Motorcycle Museum, said “Captain America” was on loan to the museum for 10 years.
“It was never owned … just on loan,” Parham said in a statement. “The person who owned it sold it, and the new owner decided to auction it off.”
