I am just to old for this sh%%!

  •  Okay so The Wooly man and me are getting some of the older bikes ready for some antique rides we love to do every year.  One is about a two hundred  mile ride there feild games, fun, friends  and some times some really good moon shine ( But that is a story for another time)  and then a two  hundred mile ride back... It is a ride that if I take My Doll I make sure to throw her sadlle bags on so I can bring my emergency shovel head kit.  You know basic tools a extra light bulb or two, electrical tape that kind of thing. But lets talk about getting the Mistress running... Well after spending most the day in the garage working on the Mistress she was finally purring like a old knuckle should.   Off for a spin the Wooly man is riding the Mistress and I pull My doll out to run interference...And  off we go for a little block/test run.  Both bikes are going fine and running like they should, Wooly only slid through one stop.  Some times he forgets what a manual drum  brake is capable of... I always call it planed stopping... Any way a little 30 mile loop heading back to the garage and Mydol (notice spelling change)  died... nothing lost headlights lost all power.  I go coasting to a stop and the Wooly man keep going.  By the time he turned around I had figured out what had happened... I lost a battery bolt... I know it was my own fault for not making sure it was tighten after working on her weeks ago but who thought it would go after 100 miles??? Any way as I did not have saddle bags tools or any thing to work with he had to run and get a trailer to get me home.... BUMMER!!!

Next day we go at it again as we had an antique chapters yearly picnic to go to.   I tighten all nuts and bolts and then resecured the cover... off we go on the same bikes... Only this time we did not go to far, not even a mile from the house the Mistress just dies...  We pull off the major road we was on into a back road, coast to shade and try to figure what happened out...Thinking it was some thing with that old linkert had to push start the Mistress, not an easy task as the Wooly man is much bigger then me but I got them going and he bump started her and head back to the garage.   adjust hear, tighten here... etc and off for attempt two.... not even two blocks and she did it again...  running trying to bump start her and nope she would not start...   I ride back to the house grap a big glass of ice water and walk to where the Wooly man is pushing her home.  In the hundred degree heat... We take turns pushing her and roll her into the garage.  My back hurts from all that running, I am just getting to old for this stuff... So I added a tow rope to the saddle bag...

  • LCStrat Just a thought! My FJR has cruise control, electronic traction control, anit-lock brakes, two ride modes to choose from, and electronic display options etc. When this bike gets older. . . ain't no telling what may happen! Just a thought!
  • Edgewalker54 heheh... Knuckle-under Bitchy!
Being somewhat of a Old Bike Lover and an electrician... I'll venture a few suggestions. 1) Condenser?
    2) Points grounded out/bad gap clearance? 3) Intermittent coil failure? From the story, it sounded like she just died...  more

  • Bitchy Update. Got a friend that owns a shop to give me a basic lesson in electrical. I think I get this now... Also in teaching my old ass a new trick he played one on me. He cut a wire before he left so I would have to track it down. I did! All by myself,...  more
