The Canonball Run

  •  Anyone that knows me knows I love old bikes.  Even if I cannot afford them I love looking at them playing with them talking to the owners of them.  Through the years I have made some good friends because of this obsession.  While the Motorcycle Cannonball is running (every two years)  it is my addiction.  It is the first thing I check in the morning and after work.  Well, this year has proven to be very interesting as the set the age limit up to 1936. (Still leaves me out, don't own nothing that old)  I heard a few/a lot of the racers complaint about how the 36 gave their riders  an advantage that they did not seem to think was fair, but Lonnie they guy who puts it on did it any way.  And talking to him it is the last time also.  But this year has proven that even those newer bikes have troubles.  Day one 12 bikes had to be picked up in the sweep truck.  Day two started with floods yesterday a 1928 HarleyJD burned to the ground, a Cannonball first and hopefully a last.   No one was hurt but seeing that old bike burn to the ground brought tears to my eyes and I said some words that only a drunken sailor would say.

If you have not checked it out do.  They have some great pictures on the website, great video of the riders and their bikes...Makes me jealious and happy for those who can enjoy and participate in the ride.
