A year a two ago I complained about how much I DO NOT LIKE all the Christmas stuff coming out before Halloween is over, even Thanksgiving for that matter. Well, this year the Wooly man and I are sending care packages to Dew. This care package is Christmas stockings for 550 of her students. No, I still do not like it but this year it has served me well. So once again life has made a hypocrite of me.
So that you all know I did a lot of thinking and planning to pull this feat off. Just think about this: Japan is a Buddhist country Christmas to them is more like our Valentine's Day. They go out with their special somebody, and for some strange reason eat KFC, yea I don't get it either. Anyway this will probably be the only Christmas these young kids will ever celebrate or receive in their lives. I tried really hard and ran around forever to get mini candy canes, mini stockings (Thank goodness I have my mother who made these for me.) But for a small present for 550 kids ranging from third grade to ninth grade. Wow what could I get them that would not only be cool to all those different kids but equal as not to start any ruckus and I wanted some thing that would remind them of America. Well, I bought temporary tattoos 600 of them ranging from cute stem punk to pirates to tribal bands. Then because tattoos are only wore by the yakuza (mob and highly looked down apon) I had get special permission from the board of education. So then as customary I had to get gifts for the board of education. I got them Christmas stockings each with a small tree ornament, some gingerbread man cookies, Christmas themed pencils pens and Pez disperse. All individually wrap as it would be wrong in their culture to not do so.
So to get all this shipped to Dew in time for these children to celebrate probably the only Christmas they will have I have been running around for eight weeks already to get all this done. So even though it is not even Thanksgiving I have already had my fill of Christmas.
I took advantage of the warm semi-sunny days early this week and put up our outside Christmas decorations. Today it's cold and snowing. :-)
