Okay, a serious WTF moment from my ride this morning.
I set out south, looking for some new roads around Lexington. I didn't really plan on an all day ride, just something to blow off a couple hours before I had to go in to work, so I was sticking to pretty much main drags. Pretty boring stuff. So boring in fact, about 30 minutes into the ride, I pull over for a smoke and checked my BestMotorcycleRoads app on my iPhone (seriously, if you have an iPhone and a motorcycle, you need this app. Awesome stuff), and found something that looked pretty decent not too far away.
After another hour of riding, I was super glad that I had looked into somewhere to ride. Getting out to the spot was boring as hell, but once I took the turn I was on a hell of a ride! Massive switchbacks, beautiful scenery, and a little out-in-the-middle-of-nowhere diner that made an incredible burger. I explored an old abandoned mine shaft, and crossed not one but two beautiful old bridges. Rad, but now it was time to head home.
Along the carved rock walls (this road happened to be old mining territory, so everything's cut into the mountain), I notice a huge tunnel opening that was separated off from the road, but looked in good shape, so I decide to pull over and check it out. Turns out, this used to connect the road to a bridge that had since been torn down and replaced, so the tunnel was inaccessible from the road except for a little gravel path. I get to the bridge end of the tunnel, and what a gorgeous view. Straight down a couple hundred feet to the Kentucky River. There's an SUV parked on the gravel path, but I don't think anything about it while I'm sight seeing.
Until I hear some noises coming from the SUV. I turn around and get my trespassing apology ready, and lo and behold, a small asian man steps out of the back seat of the vehicle COMPLETELY STARK RAVING NAKED! Clearly the man looked confused as to why this rough looking biker (I looked particularly mean today, gotta keep my rep up) was in this secluded spot, and I was shocked beyond words, so I stammer out that aforementioned trespassing line, and stumble back through the tunnel to my bike, while the nonplused naked man climbed back into his SUV.
The things you see on the road.
Keep the Dirty Side Down,
Z
