Royal Purple Synthetic Motorcycle oil!

  • January 13, 2010 1:23 AM PST
Ok everybody! I've been using H-D 20-50 synthetic motor oil in my 2007 FLHR since my 500 mile Oil change. I've been thinking of changing to Mobil 1 20-50 synthetic for air cooled motors. But I've heard a lot of good things about the Royal Purple 20-50 oil for H-D. Just wanted to throw it out there, Anyone use Mobil or Royal Purple? I have 34,000 miles on my bike and haven't had any issues yet. Any feedback will be appreciated! Thanks! Oh yeah do I have to get a Royal Purple oil filter for my bike is I switch to the Purple?

From what I can find the Royal Purple is the best. Started using it last year in all 4 bikes.

Never ran Purple, Run AMSOIL in both bikes and love it...... Runs cool and have NEVER had any type of issues.

I've ran nothing but Royal Purple in my bikes. Makes it easy for a change you can run it in all 3 holes.

Take this for what it cost you.

p.s.: I use HD oil because if anything goes wrong I enjoy the thought of suing HD. Synthetic oil is great but in my opinion, if you change oil regularly, for most riding in non-desert temperatures it is a waste of money.

Royal Purple, Amsoil, Mobil 1, and Rotella T Syn (what I use) are all great oils.

extreme, you run the rotella t syn, i ued the rotella t15w40 in my business servicing semi's and that was a freekin great oil, the syn is better? i would drop oil at 10k on a semi and it would be black, but slick as hell, and it was a conventional.

Yea Bro, I run the T Syn in everything I have. Scooters, tractor, truck, the wife's Z, boy's trucks, etc. One oil covers everything.

I'd be interested in scientific analysis and explanation of why this is so.

They have sales on mobil 1 oil all the time at the place i get my oil from. $8.50 per qt. for synthetic 20w50 and because of this I myself can't justify the 16 dollar per qt. charge on the royal purple oil. The test results for the different types of synthetic oil were very imformative thanks alot Jeff.

Your very welcome, We change our fluids in the bikes once a years with AMSOIL. I do change the oil filter around 4-5K then just add. We ride between 12-17K a year and have never had a problem. Even in Sturgis last year (105º)on the hottest day, Both Road Kings stayed under 250º even in traffic...
