Rebuilding a 1978 Shovel *need parts*

  • April 7, 2014 4:13 AM PDT
Anyone have some Barrels, Heads, and Rocker boxes that they would like to donate or sell to my cause. Loosing compression and I tried new rings and I am bored out to .060 already. Need to redo the top end and get some power back. Anyone?

A buddy of mine is closing up his shop.  I'm buying one of his lifts.  He does have a few shovel head parts in his shop.  Because he works odd hours and always seems to be on calla,  I'm not sure how soon he and I will get together.  But I will make a list of any shovel head parts he has and let you know.  I just bought a '78 FXE(I first thought to be a 79) that I'll be working on as well. I'm not so sure it needs much if anything but I won't know until I get into it.  Again, I'll let you know.   You can see my bike in "my garage".

    Peace

@Jimmyacorn that is awesome of you! Keep me posted on what he has. Mainly any engine or tranny (stock ratchet top) parts he has would be great!

O.K. picked up the lift yesterday. I asked about more parts but his inventory has already been sold to another shop. Truly sorry about that. He hadn't been advertising that he was getting out of the business. It was just lucky for me that I spoke with his brother-in-law that I got the lift. Hope you find what you need.

    Peace

Hey Porno, did ya ever find the parts ya needed? Ya could always sleeve the jugs... and there are a lot of shovel head forums to find heads.
Keep us in the loop and post pics when it's running!

Not sure what part of California you are in, but we have two great swap meets.  I'm talking old school swap meets where guys who have been working on bikes forever bring boxes of parts from their garages and spread them out.  The Long Beach Swap Meet is much bigger and I have found crap there I thought I would never be able to find anywhere.

Long Beach Swap Meet - held every month... http://www.cyclefish.com/event/4362/ />
    NorCal Swap Meet - held a few times a year... http://www.cyclefish.com/event/23908/ />

Appreciate everyone giving a word here! Lucky, I know all about those swap meets just haven't had time to get to them. Took the shovel to the Yuma Prison Run and came home to a leaky tranny. Need to have the races replaced and do a good rebuild. Also, waiting on word to get a basket case motor from my cousin. I love working on it, but I love riding 1000 times more. So have a couple more runs to make this year and will deal with what I have as of now. Thanks for the cheering on though guys. Nothing but love for the Old School!!

I hear ya on the "love working on it". Me too but like you riding is a priority. I don't think I've touched my shovel for about a week now and it's damn close to being road ready.
