Business Description
Quick Intro
#1 BMW Motorcycles Dealer in San Diego
About Our Business
San Diego BMW Motorcycle is owned by O&O Motorrad Incorporated. Michael O'Keefe and Gary Orr are the primary shareholders and dealer principals.
Gary's history with BMW motorcycles goes back to the late 1980's when was stationed in San Diego with the Navy. While here he purchased his first BMW, a K75. Gary was riding a lot at the time and became a customer of Brattin Motors, the independent BMW dealership on El Cajon Blvd.
A few years later, he left the navy and spent a couple of years Road-racing motorcycles throughout the Mid Atlantic and Great Lakes regions. Realizing there is always someone faster and with more money at the racetrack, Gary decided to return to San Diego where the riding was better (and of course year round). Upon his return, he found himself back at Brattin Motors, this time on the opposite side of the counter, first as a Service Advisor, then Service Manager. Over the next 10 years, Gary ran the Service Department, until the time came for the owners to retire.
After growing up in Australia, and graduating university, Michael O'keefe spent three years working with Ericson in Canada then came to San Diego for a warmer climate and a new job at Qualcom. Michael had been a motorcycle enthusiast as well, and partnering on purchasing the small Mom and Pop style dealership seemed like a good idea.
San Diego BMW Motorcycles was born, and like all good ideas, growth happened quickly. In order to get BMW to approve the transfer of ownership, Gary and Michael had to agree to move the dealership within 3 years to a facility that would meet the requirements of BMW Corporate Identity. BMW had changed a lot in 40 years, but Brattin Motors really had not. Although some may mourn the days of the small mom and pop motorcycle shops, BMW had outgrown this type of store. The demand for the increasingly high performance BMW Motorcycles had outpaced the ability for the small shops to provide.
The new store located at 5673 Kearny Villa Road, provides for a much easier freeway access as well as a showroom three times the size. Since moving to the new location, San Diego BMW Motorcycles has been in the top ten nationwide for BMW Motorcycle sales every year. But selling lots of bikes is not what we are all about, Gary and Mike are enthusiasts (although they don't have as much time to ride as they would like these days). We are more motivated by finding the right fit for a customer than finding just any bike to sell. The real joy for us is to share the technology, artistry, freedom, and camaraderie that motorcycling provides with as many people as possible.
We are proud to have a knowledgeable staff of motorcyclists that love the sport and show up everyday ready to help our customers enjoy the lifestyle. This isn't just a job for us, it's a way of life.
