Bikernomics
>> It’s long been said that the middle class is the life of an economy. We work our butts off and sacrifice our time with kids just to save a few extra bucks for fun times. Which is what Oliver Anthony sang about, the dollar ain’t shit…I have a unique take on money and bikers, I call it Bikernomics. You see, when you spend money through a “shopping site” very little profit is directly to the person selling that item. That shipper is counting on volume purchases and knows how easy it is to sit back and have money rolling in. Yes, I too use them at times, however I try to keep it to a minimum. With Bikernomics I leverage my money with events, businesses and companies that are directly there for my fun, purpose or entertainment. ie: at a rally if I need a new pair of sunglasses or a cool ring I shop the vendors that sell in person and travel the country attending events. That supports my kind of people. Typically they have the latest trends and styles, variety of sizes and will assist in the best fit. If we continue to shop online only to save $2 vs. what it sells for at a rally then why have a rally. It’s the in person experience that’s important and the new or familiar faces we see year in and year out.
>> We are seeing a trend across the country with rallies that is alarming, fewer attendees. Mostly due to the aging population that rides motorcycles. Trends come and go but motorcycling is the most freedom I have ever experienced and will ride as many years as I can. Bikernomics is a huge part of this too. Motorcycle shops are disappearing and fading into the sunset. We cannot push a generation into riding but we can certainly encourage and guide them into trying it. If they are like us it will only take a short trip around the block to decide. Once they are hooked it all comes full circle and Bikernomics is in full effect. Ensuring that our lifestyle is one freedom we control just by living it. So plan to attend a major bike rally, a local charity ride or local event that’s sole purpose is to keep our lifestyle entertained and fun.
