Tina’s Ride is a charity benefit in need of the help and support of our community and sponsors. We are asking your organization, club, or establishment to help us reach our goals and succeed in the much needed help to an amazing woman.
Tina is a 51 year old mother of three, grandmother, and has been a Registered Charge Nurse for over 30 years. She is the kind of person that will go out of her way to help anyone and does more for others than herself. Tina has battled with diabetes her entire life. In November of last year, Tina was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Throat Cancer. This diagnosis not only greatly effected Tina but everyone who knew her as well. During Tina’s treatment plan, she endured long hours at the hospital, numerous biopsies, testing, as well as 2 1/2 months of everyday Chemo and Radiation treatments. Tina also had to get a med port placed in her chest and a feeding tube placed in her stomach. The med port became infected shortly after placing it due to her body rejecting it and Tina had to have it removed, leaving her doctors to giving her manual medication each session. The feeding tube was placed and found it was placed in to far and had to be redone. Through Tina’s treatments, her throat became severely burnt as well as her mouth and it eventually took away her ability to produce saliva and taste. Half way through her treatments, Tina became extremely ill. The medical team thought this was due to her chemo and radiation. After several visits to the doctor and ER, it was found that Tina’s appendix had ruptured inside of her and had gone undetected for over a week. Tina was once again hospitalized and was on life support for 72 hours. This woman has endured more in the last year than numerous people should have to deal with in a life time. Although Tina has since gone into remission from the cancer, she still battles with the severe diabetes and the after affects of the cancer and treatments. Tina still can’t eat like you and I do. Her weight has dropped so significantly in such a short time (from size 12 to size 4) that she remains on the feeding tube and her diabetes is extremely out of control. The ambulance has been to Tina’s residence 10 times in the last few weeks due to sugar shock and being unresponsive. She has woken up several times with no feeling or movement in her right side for up to 2 hours after waking. There have been several times when she simply does not wake up at all. Her husband has even found her asleep in a coma state foaming at the mouth. Yet Tina still battles on. Her time off work limit has already reached the end and Tina was given the choice to go back to work or lose her health insurance. Tina returned to work and works long 12 hour shifts taking care of her patients and making sure, they have the best care possible. However, Tina really needs to stay home and take care of herself. Tina contacted disability and they told her she is the perfect candidate to go on disability for the rest of her life due to the severeness of what she has been through in the last year and her ongoing condition. However, they also told her in order to be placed on disability she would have to quit work and remain out of work for 5 months unpaid before her disability would start and offer her any kind of income. I know I could not live with no income for 5 months. Please help us to help this nurse be able to stay home and take care of herself for a change, instead of taking care of the thousands of others that she has treated and stood beside in her lifetime. Your help and support in this matter mean the world to her family, friends, as well as all involved in this benefit. From our house to yours Thank you!
